About Me:
|
Old school Ham, just as familiar with tube rigs as the new Ft-857D. Not "neighborally correct" as far as antennas are concerned(got 'em all OVER!). From UHF to VLF. Got a fairly square 5 acres on a big hill to put them up on, big loop around the property lines, various wire dipoles and end fed wires, three towers (one TA-36 Mosley, several 6m and 2m beams, and an ongoing rhombic project). "If it ain't at least 66 feet up, it ain't right". Eight year NAVMARCORPS MARS operator, and Alabama State sponsored militia member. Not a contester, but love a good long QSO with the technically interested.

From a spark gap transmitter, to the Yaesu Transceiver, my shack looks like a museum. I love to play with the spark gap, just to mess with the neighbors (I just don't do it TOO often). Got too many project radios that may not get fixed before I see the wrong side of the grass. 22 Hallicrafter S-38's alone! A gorgeous working National HRO-5TA1 with all the coil sets, and original doghouse power supply (a legacy from my Dad KA2HRC, SK-1994). Two sets of Drake Twins (T-4XB/R-4B). One thing, I love to copy old Heathkit Designs, made a DX-35 from scratch using modern components, and old stripped chassis and case I found at a hamfest in Cullman, AL. Real sorry that someone bought up the intellectual rights for all Heathkit equipment, then charges a mint for ONE Construction/operating manual. Oh well. Lets see, contact info on-air follows: 3.965 after 9pm central, or if you want a real challenge, 50.555 or 146.555 anytime (simplex always!). Repeaters are for H-T's. Grid Square EM72, county: Tallapoosa for all you grid and county hunters. QSL's at a cost: a good QSO. None of this Callsign/Signal Strength/ club # , and onward stuff. Won't tolerate it. Stay at the switch, and have fun, Fred.
