About Me:
Born/raised in Chicago IL, dad was a career Chicago policeman. Went to Nathan Hale Elem and JF Kennedy HS in Chicago, graduated 1975. Enlisted USAF in mid 1976 and stationed in San Antonio for basic tng, Denver at Lowry AFB for electronics and air2air/air2ground conventional missile school. First duty base Nellis AFB Feb 77 in the Area 2 missile shop. Married for short time to first wife, met present wife on a detail there in Jan 79 (military too). We went to Keflavik Iceland from Dec 1980 to Dec 1982 then I retrained at Chanute AFB in IL again electronics but this time air launched nuclear cruise missiles. Went to Plattsburgh AFB in NY mid 1983. Applied for technical instructor duty while there, accepted, and went back to Chanute AFB mid 1985. Taught electronics, computer systems and air launched nuclear cruise missile systems until base closed in 1993. Went to McConnell AFB in Wichita mid 1993 and retired mid 1995. Left Wichita and moved to central KY about 30 miles west of Ft Knox. Been here since. Have been working employed and self employed since 1995 in various IT jobs. Closed my business of 17 yrs this fall (IT services) due to changing market and not enough work to pay the expenses and went to work for a while in a local plastics plant as a machine operator. Changed in early December to working as an assembler at the MTD plant nearby and loving it, trying for an inhouse hire as a tooling tech in their plastics section. Nice having a regular paycheck and time to enjoy hobbies once again. Wife and I married 34 yrs this coming March (2013), we have 3 grown sons, grown daughter, 3 grandsons, 2 grandaughters.
Other Information:
Had tested for Novice back in the early 1970's in Chicago and granted a license but never had a chance to get on the air and use the license. Essentially my license expired without being used. When I left for the AF a lot of my records were misplaced so I don't even have a clue what my callsign was and the FCC has no records from then. Anyway I tested as unlicensed on March 3rd 2012 and passed element 3 and 4 in the same session and have my general license KK4HUJ. Only radio I presently have is a 1972 Heathkit SB-102 that I am restoring so I have not been on the air on HF yet. Recently acquired a Baofeng UV-5R with the extended battery for 2m and 70cm use so I have been on the air on the local repeater and the nearby repeater one county north of us.
