About Me:
Good Day! My name is Ross Comstock and I have been a HAM since March 2009. I started in radio as a kid experimenting with shortwave listening. Once I realized that I was receiving stations from all over the world with a simple receiver and wire, I was hooked. Me and my Dad were involved with a local CB radio club in East Central Oklahoma (Sallisaw) and would talk everynight with the guys on Channel 31 just to ragchew. Many of those CB'rs were also HAMS which got me interested in the field but getting a license seemed difficult at the time. Fast forward several years and I joined the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. There, I was shovel-fed six months worth of electronics theory and troubleshooting classes. I was stationed on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in Newport News, VA during her Refueling and Complex Overhaul evolution, meaning I never left the dock nor worked on a single piece of electronic gear the whole time I was assigned there. Once out of the Navy, I turned my attention to the Coast Guard and signed up as a Boatswain's Mate. Once at my new station in North Carolina, I got a renewed interest in radio and started again with CB. I was badly disappointed, however as there were few professional operators out there. Thankfully(?), after a catastrophic failure of my radio that I could not fix I turned my attention to the mysterious amateur radio. I found that the license was not difficult to obtain and immediately began studying. About 2 months later, I drove over 2 hours to the nearest test session and acheived my Tech ticket. (Hence the '4' call)

Since being stationed in Texas, I got my General ticket and a fair base station. I now enjoy working HF Digital especially JT65 and when on the air, can usually be found on 20m. I love collecting QSL cards and send my own quite often. I also use LOTW and eQSL.

I formerly could be heard aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Brant in Corpus Christi, TX when I was stationed there. Also, I occasionally work the radio room aboard the USS Lexington Museum Ship (W5LEX), parked just outside of the Harbor Bridge from the Corpus Christi Harbor. The Lexington is located in Nueces County, Texas in grid square EL17ht. Lastly, I am active in Navy MARS (NNN0INM and NNN0AS6-3) and am the ARES Assistant Emergency Coordinator for Aransas County, Texas.

Thanks for looking! 73!!

Ah, we're in South Texas...'nuff said. hahaha But seriously, as long as folks aren't getting hammered during FD, I don't see a problem with it. However, I would recommend using a tall koozie just in case "somebody" has an issue with it. Es...
