Hi, I have a nice 2 metre fM rig about 12 watts and I fancied trying my luck on 2M sideband (actually upper sideband). I couldn't afford to buy a new rig so I sat down, relaxed with a whiskey, and then I realized how I could modify my existing rig to work on sideband. I came across this cracking crazy idea. It is simple, if you want to use sideband all you need is half a carrier, in my case the top half. I went to the model shop and purchased a small diamond rotary cutting blade to use with my micro drill. I opened up the case of my 2M rig and after a little while and another whiskey I found the final PA stage and there was a glistening gold plated power transistor. Braving myself, I carefully unsoldered this beast and placed it in my small vice. I took another whiskey and powering up my mini drill with the diamond rotary cutter, I carefully cut the PA transistor through the middle into two halves. breathing a sigh of relief that I managed the cutting cleanly and without damaging te half I needed, carefully desoldered the beast back in place, took another whiskey and powered up the rig. I now have a super single sideband 2M rig, all I need now is a good lift condition so that I can make some DX contacts. Ive been calling CQ now for several weeks on all frequencies, and finished my 20th bottle of whiskey, but as yet no one has come back. It is so disappointing having to wait so long for lift conditions, but I guess most of you have had the same feelings. If anyone wants a drawing of the mods for single sideband please find me somewhere on 2M.

Oh, that was a good one!  I almost ruined my keyboard.

This would have been better had you posted it on April 1st though Wink
