Hello all,
In Bob Heil's first broadcast of Ham Nation TV, the year 1912 was eluded to as a special and significant year for the ham operator. That got me to thinking, and where I had already been serving as a Staff Writer for DxCoffee I thought, what the hay, I'm going to study and research this and learn more about the roots of ham radio and the origins of our hobby. Did you know that the first hams were radio telegraphers, called "duffers" or "hams?"
This is a year where we now celebrate 100 years of our hobby, tracing its creation to 1912 with an act of congress. If you want to feel a little of the passion and pride I feel for the hobby, check out my article on:
http://www.dxcoffee.com/eng/2012/02/03/ham-radio-usa-100th-birthday/I would love to hear from you what it is about ham radio that makes you tick. There are so many facets of our hobby, with something for everyone who takes an initial interest. Again, thank you Bob Heil for giving me the spark to right a fun and informative article. Thanks to guys like Bob and Joe Walsh and the creators of the Ham Radio Nation podcasts and the creators of this excellent website.
What excites you and motivates you about ham radio?
