to map contacts?  I was in a flea market new years day and found a large map that someone had used pins for contacts.  It had to have been 80's or earlier since it still had USSR on it.  I kinda want one for my radio closet just to have because I kinda think it looks cool.  I map my contacts in Google earth but the old school way looks cool.

Our family radio room has a map with pins in it for our contacts.  Different color pin for each family member.  We also have a color pin that signifies that a person was contacted by more than one of us.  It does look really great on the wall.  I also have other maps that I put up when doing emergency communications.  I will use pins on those as well.

Best regards,

I have a modern world map, set under plexiglass, on top of my radio desk, but it is mainly there for decoration.  To be honest, I never even thought of using a map and pushpins Wink

Yes, I still use REAL maps even though all my diaries and logs are computerised, untill I took everything down from my Shack ready for moving, over 6 months since and still not moved, I had 3 maps logging contacts.

Map 1 - was of the area around Sheffield, approx 50 miles which showed local 6m, 4m, 2m and 70cms (non repeater) contacts, 4 bands 4 sets of coloured pins.

Map 2 - Covered Europe, near Asia and North Africa, which had a variety of coloured pins covering HF, 6m, VHF and UHF, but not the ones on map 1.

Map 3 - The world - and had my HF contacts on it, I did consider splitting it ito bands, but some of the log books where lost some years back so I could not confirm which was wich.

Seeing that all the lot have now been taken down and I did not keep a record of them I supose I will have to start all over again when I get set back up.

I use a huge map bought at an educational website and pushpins in my classroom for my radio class/students.  Each students keeps a paper log in a binder (yes, I make them!), and put their colored pin on the map.  They gave me the idea of purchasing a map per each new ham getting licensed as a gift from the club so it won't look so crowded.
