N4SRQ posted a comment on WR1TX's poll:Similar thing - took my FT-817 and an MP-1 on a cruise ship. There was enough ceiling to extend the antenna and I let the counterpoise hang over the balcony. You need a balcony room to do this .. had a great time and had a host of people to work....

N4SRQ posted a forum topic about Re: help UHF/VHF YAGI :If you are looking for a store bought solution, Arrow antennas sells a 7 element 2M / 3 element 70cm for less than $150. I put mine on a camera tripod and track the satellite that way. The ARRL antenna book has a number of plans if you want to build your own. I have even had some luck using a hi-gain antenna on my HT without going the Yagi route - but that is mostly useful if you have a high pass and wont get you through the entire pass.
